A red-shouldered hawk in the back yard.

Monday, November 27, 2017

I have found many paper wasp nests in my birdhouses. This is the first time I've ever seen one in a more natural setting. I found it in a small pine tree.

It was a cold rainy November day, and this red-shouldered hawk was sitting on top of a steel pole outside my window.

All these sweet potatoes came from one plant!

Found this mushroom in our lawn. Looks like it just popped up!

May is the month for birds! I found this Cape May Warbler bathing in the creek.

This is a female Common Yellowthroat. She looks like she just came from a bath!

Here is a White-eyed Vireo, enjoying a bit of sun.

And this is a Swainson's Thrush, ready to take flight.

I've always thought the red-headed woodpecker was a classy looking bird.

Same feeder, but look how much bigger the pileated woodpecker is on it!

Found this Whooping crane among friends on a birding trip.

February was above normal on temps and Harbinger of Spring made an early appearance.   I like to call this Salt and Pepper.
